A Tech Kid Christmas!

Everybody loves Christmas it’s the time to spend time with the family. I must have been a good kid this year because I had a GREAT Christmas!

My favorite Christmas gift is my Pyle Pro Electric Guitar! It is gray, white and black (as you can see from the picture). It came with a whammy bar, extra strings, picks, amp, strap, pitch pipe - pretty much a full package! To top it off my guitar teacher (and friend) gave me DR Neon Strings that glow under UV lighting-  they look awesome!

Wii Game Review: Wii Sports Resort

Wii Sports Resort has Bowling, Airplane flying, ping pong, Basketball, Archery, Jet Ski, golf, bicycle riding, and more. It’s a family fun game to play for game night or just to play after school with your friends. I like the Basketball, JET SKI, Ping pong, and Archery the best.

What I don’t like is when you drive the airplanes there is a clock you have to beat. I wish the game had free play when you drive the airplanes and the canoe is hard to play without somebody helping you in the same canoe.

Special Note: This game requires Wii Motion Plus

Donkey Kong Country Returns

Donkey Kong Country Returns has all kinds of levels, creatures, and backgrounds. The graphics are good.  My family constantly played this game for over a month! That’s saying a lot when my Dad and I can normally beat a game within a weekend.  It’s well worth the higher costs to purchase it.
Take your time and make sure you look everywhere for hidden pieces. Use your coins to purchase more lives for DK and Diddy from Cranky’s Shop.

If you beat all the worlds you get a hidden passage to a new level. The bad part is, if you rushed through and didn’t collect everything in the first 8 worlds, you have to go back and get all of the letter cards, beat the hidden level within each world to collect all of the orbs, and THEN the hidden world 9 is unlocked!

I thank the game, the curators, and the animation is a very cool and I also like the Tiki Tak Tribe member at the end, and Rambi the rhino that DK & Diddy can ride on.

Don’t use the nun chuck unless you are a VERY skilled at it.  It is much easier to play this game without it.

Visit the Nintendo’s site for more information.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 for Wii & DS

WARNING: Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 for Wii is an “M” (mature) RATED GAME!

This is a cool new Call of Duty game for Wii!  My favorite features are that there is helicopter riding and helicopter shooting with new guns and missiles. You can also shoot guns from the trucks and in the cars. I like the shooting, car driving, and the underwater driving. It’s a really cool game to play.

What I don’t like is the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 (Wii) is the controller locks on me and the gun turn where I don’t want it to go. I wish that you can use a GameCube controller on it, but you can’t. It has some mild language (nothing like the language in Call of Duty Black Ops….)

Tech Kid the Computer Saver!!!

I was at my friends Opal, Alex, and Katy’s house and Opal had a virus on her computer. I tried to fix it but I couldn’t get it to work so I asked if I could bring it to my house. I was beyond excited when their mom said “yes”!

I started working on it on the car ride home. I almost had it when the battery died on me. Once I got home I tried it again, I crashed the computer and it was wiped clean. There was nothing on it. No Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player the WI-FI driver was gone… nothing.

Today I put Windows Media Player 8 on it then I installed Malwarebytes Anti-Virus Software. I have to wait till tomorrow to get the driver and utility disk to finish loading everything.  HA- I did it!
I think it was awesome that even with a family full of bloggers… an 11 year old fixed the computer!

Wii Game Reivew: Wii Music

Wii music is a game you can play with up to 4 people. It’s fun to play with friends as I play with my sisters. It has all kinds of instruments from the upright bass, electric bass, trumpet, flute, trombone, clarinet, recorder, and LOTS of different types of drums. There are many instruments and drums that I’ve never heard of before that are really cool to hear and play. We have fun playing the conductor game and playing in a band together.
I like to play the DJ stand and electric Guitar. They are really fun. My sister, Jazz the Girly Girl, likes the violin and the electric Guitar. And my youngest sister likes the Guitar, Dog, and the Cat suit.

I would recommend this game to anyone who has an interest or passion for music.

Tech Kid’s new Sony Network Media Player

On our way home from instrument practice on Monday my parents told us they had a 52 inch Smart TV in the back of the car. My sister and I looked around the car and said “no we don’t!” Then they said “yes we do, look”, and my Mom handed me the Sony Network Media Player - I was excited to get it home and hook it up!

For those who don’t know, the Sony Network Media Player is an internet TV system that can turn any TV to a smart TV to stream movies and tv shows from the internet. It also sort-of turns your tv into another simple computer. Like a really big netbook.

You can hook it up by WI-FI or directly to your internet modem. It is so easy I can set it up.  My dad and I were able to do it in just minutes!

After we hooked it up I was able to play around with it and discover that has all kinds of apps you can play and use. It has 3D world, YouTube, Netflix, Hulu plus, Sony EntertainmentNetwork, Pandora, Cinema now, Vudu, Flixters, and Crackle. You can link your personal computer to the Sony player and view your media files. It also allows you to turn your smart phone into a versatile remote control with a full keyboard. Use the USB port to play music, pics, and videos. The Sony player can play music at the same time on another Sony product.
I like the Netflix and the Hulu plus features because I can watch whatever I want. The coolest thing for kids is the Wired Channel. Wired is about the new technology in the world - Tech Kid likes this!

Gamefly Review

I have been BEGGING my parents to try Gamefly for months now. Well, the beginning of the month was my birthday so my parents purchased a Gamefly subscription as part of my present. But they didn’t just give it to me; that would have been too boring. Instead, they did a scavenger hunt with the end having me click on a link on my mom’s laptop titled “Happy 11th Birthday!” I was soooo happy to see my own Gamefly account!  They said I could put ANYTHING in my Q……awesome!

For those who don’t know Gamefly is like the Netflix for games. They have more than 8,000 of them to rent!  I knew they had a lot of games, but I had no idea they had almost any game I could have imagined! They offer games for different consoles like PS3, PS2, PSP, Xbox 360, Xbox, Wii, 3DS, DS, GameCube, and Gameboy advance.

Gamefly’s website has you pick the games you want and they put them in you Q. Your Q tells you what games you have at home, and what games you have on your list to be sent to you. It also tells you when the game comes back and when the next game is being sent out.  My first game was Donkey Kong for Wii…. it’s a $50 game that I got to play all month long!  Now I’ve got Epic Mickey… it too is a $50 game, but I doubt I’ll be keeping it for as long (boring game).  If I had purchased Epic Mickey for that $50, I would have been pretty mad.

My only complaint is when you turn a game back in, it takes about 4-5 days to get the other game......I wish it could be faster.

Talk to your parents about Gamefly and don’t forget to tell them about the free trial.  If you use my link, you will qualify for a buy one month, get one month free benefit.

*Disclaimer:  All opinions expressed herein are true and unbiased.  I do not encourage anyone under the age of 18 to sign up for Gamefly without parental permission.

ATTENTION 3DS PEOPLE!!!!

Check out the Nintendo Show 3D for information on the new Skylanders toy for gaming. Just point your 3DS at the “toy” and you’re off on an adventure! Check it out it looks cool! I just told my mom about it (crossing my fingers that it makes it under my tree).

For even more info check out Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure For 3DS on Girl GamerTV (yup, I just linked to a Girl Gaming site… it’s a great interview)

Jon the Tech Kid Reviews the Nintendo 3DS

Why I love it: It allows you to have more apps than the Nintendo DSi, and it comes with AR GAMES, FACE RAIDERS, Mii PLAZA, and DS DOWNLOAD for 3DS and DS.

My favorite feature is whenever you keep your 3DS on, but closed in your pocket, you get points that you can turn in for a puzzle piece!  What is a puzzle piece you may ask?  Well a puzzle piece is a virtual puzzle that whenever you finish a piece it’s a surprise….. then you get other one, and another one.

The Mii MAKER is like the Wii and you can even take your Wii characters from your Wii! If you turn in your Nintendo points online you can get an AR Card which will make your characters seem to come to life on your top screen.  My mom enjoyed taking a picture of herself standing next to her Mii. (sigh; wish I had thought of that one first)

You can add music to your 3DS with the 2GB SD card included with your purchase. This works great with iTunes music files! Cool tip:  Turn on your music on your 3DS and put it on top of another DS….the music will continue to play even with your 3DS closed!

CHAT. If your friend has a 3DS you can talk to them from anywhere using your Wi-Fi. Just give them your code!

Don’t worry, you won’t lose anything!  You can transfer almost everything from your DSI or DSI XL if you have Wi-Fi Connection. To do this, download the transfer tool at the Nintendo shop channel.

Parental Controls:  Are terrible.  Not just because most parental controls are terrible, but because if your parents set them up in any way it could prevent you from using your internet capabilities… even if that isn’t what they selected to use.  This portion of the 3DS needed more work.

The Nintendo 3DS is a cool system. The size is perfect as it will still fit in my pocket. The 3D effects are great but are customizable if you are not in the mood for them. It is the best handheld I’ve had and all my siblings are going to be begging Santa for one!
